INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:
Teacher shows pupils two pictures: one of a clean environment and another of a dirty environment. Pupils discuss which one they would prefer to live in and why.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON:
The environment is everything around us. Environmental quality means how clean, safe, and healthy our environment is. An environment can either be degraded or healthy.

  • Healthy Environment: This is an environment that is healthy for living. It is clean, has fresh air, pure water, trees, and no waste around.
  • Degraded Environment: This is an environment that is not healthy for living. It is dirty, full of waste, polluted air and water, dangerous for health.

Advantages of a Healthy Environment:

  1. Promotes good health.
  2. Reduces diseases.
  3. Makes life enjoyable.

Disadvantages of a Degraded Environment:

  1. Causes sickness such as malaria and cholera.
  2. Produces bad smell.
  3. Reduces quality of life.

Factors Degrading Environment: Waste, deforestation, smoke, noise, oil spillage.
