What is Pollution?

Pollution is when harmful substances are added to the environment and make it unsafe or dirty for people, animals, and plants to live.

Types of Pollution

1. Water Pollution:

This happens when bad things like oil, chemicals, garbage, and sewage get into rivers, lakes, or streams.

Polluted water is unsafe for drinking, swimming, and fish.

1. Air Pollution:

This is when dirty gases, dust, or smoke fill the air we breathe.

This can make it hard to breathe and can harm plants and animals too.

Causes of Pollution

• People throw garbage into rivers instead of using dustbins.
• Smoke from cars, buses, and factories fills the air with harmful gases.
• Oil spills happen when oil leaks into rivers or the soil.
• People burn bushes or trash which creates thick smoke.

Effects (Problems) Caused by Pollution

• Air pollution can cause people to cough, have asthma, or other breathing problems. It also contributes to global warming, which changes the Earth’s weather.
• Pollution kills plants and animals because it damages their homes and food sources.

• Always dispose of waste properly by using dustbins and dumpsites.
• Plant trees because they help clean the air and give us fresh oxygen.
• Avoid oil spillage by being careful when handling oil and petrol.
• Use clean energy sources like solar or wind power instead of burning fuels that cause smoke.
