What Is the Internet?
The Internet is like a giant network that connects computers all around the world.
It helps people share information, talk to each other, watch videos, play games, and much more!
You can think of the Internet like a huge library or city that never sleeps — always full of ideas, pictures, news, and fun things to explore!
History of the Internet:
- In the 1960s, it began as a project in the USA called ARPANET.
- At first, it helped universities share research.
- Then businesses and people started using it.
- In the 1990s, the World Wide Web (www) made it easier for everyone to use — that’s when it really became popular!
Basic Internet Words You Should Know:
Term | What It Means |
Website | A page on the Internet with information, pictures, videos, etc. Example: www.studyzone.ng |
Browser | A program that helps you go on the Internet. Examples: Chrome, Firefox |
Email | A way to send and get messages online. It’s like digital mail! |
Search Engine | A tool to help you find things on the Internet. Examples: Google, Bing |
URL | The address of a website. It tells your browser where to go! |
