Meaning of Puberty
Puberty is the time in a child’s life when the body begins to change and grow into an adult body.
- It usually starts between ages 9 and 15.
- These changes help prepare the body for adulthood and reproduction.
Physical Changes During Puberty
During puberty, the body changes in different ways for boys and girls.
Boys may notice:
- A deeper voice
- Beard and moustache starting to grow
- Broader chest
- Wet dreams (releasing sperm during sleep)
Girls may notice:
- Breast development
- Hips become wider
- Start of menstruation (monthly period)
- Hair growth under arms and in private parts
Emotional Changes During Puberty
As the body changes, feelings and emotions also begin to change.
- Mood swings (feeling happy, then sad suddenly)
- Attraction to the opposite sex
- Desire to be independent or make their own choices
- Feeling shy, confused, or unsure about the changes
Importance of Puberty
Puberty is a normal and important part of growing up. It:
- Prepares the body for having children in the future
- Helps you become more mature in thoughts and actions
- Marks the change from childhood to adulthood
