CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:

Teacher asks: “Where does your torchlight get its power from? What makes the fan or stove work?”
Pupils give responses such as battery, gas, electricity, etc.

MEANING OF SOURCE OF ENERGY:

A source of energy is where energy comes from. It is what gives us power to do work.

TYPES OF ENERGY SOURCES

  1. Natural Sources of Energy: These come from nature. They include:
  • Sun – it gives light and heat
  • Wind – it moves objects and helps windmills to work
  • Water – it can move machines and generate electricity
  • Wood/Firewood – it’s used for cooking
  1. Man-Made Sources of Energy: These are made by people. They include:
  • Battery – it’s used in torchlights and toys
  • Electricity – it’s used at home and school
  • Gas (cooking gas) – it’s used in stoves to cook
  • Petrol/Diesel – it’s used in cars and generators
