CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:
Teacher shows pictures or real objects of people, animals, and plants, then asks pupils:
“Can you tell me what all these things have in common?”
Pupils’ responses expected: “They move,” “They eat,” “They grow,” etc.
MEANING OF LIVING THINGS
Living things are things that are alive. They can move, eat, grow, and have babies (reproduce).
EXAMPLES OF LIVING THINGS:
- Human beings (e.g., teacher, pupils)
- Animals (e.g., dog, cat, cow, goat, chicken)
- Plants (e.g., grass, tree, flowers)
CHARACTERISTICS OF LIVING THINGS
All living things:
- Breathe – they take in air.
- Move – they can change position.
- Grow – they increase in size.
- Reproduce – they give birth or produce new ones.
- Eat and Drink – they need food and water to stay alive.
- Feel – they can react to what happens around them.
- Die – they don’t live forever.
