INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:
Teacher shows pupils two pictures: one of a clean environment and another of a dirty environment. Pupils discuss which one they would prefer to live in and why.
CONTENT OF THE LESSON:
The environment is everything around us. Environmental quality means how clean, safe, and healthy our environment is. An environment can either be degraded or healthy.
- Healthy Environment: This is an environment that is healthy for living. It is clean, has fresh air, pure water, trees, and no waste around.
- Degraded Environment: This is an environment that is not healthy for living. It is dirty, full of waste, polluted air and water, dangerous for health.
Advantages of a Healthy Environment:
- Promotes good health.
- Reduces diseases.
- Makes life enjoyable.
Disadvantages of a Degraded Environment:
- Causes sickness such as malaria and cholera.
- Produces bad smell.
- Reduces quality of life.
Factors Degrading Environment: Waste, deforestation, smoke, noise, oil spillage.
