Land and Noise Pollution

TOPIC: Land and Noise Pollution
SUBTOPIC: Meaning, Sources, Effects, and Control Measures
CLASS: Primary 5
DATE: ____________________
PERIOD: ____________________
DURATION: 40 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Define land and noise pollution.
  2. Identify pollutants that affect land and noise.
  3. Examine the sources and effects of land pollution.
  4. Discuss the effects of noise pollution.
  5. Suggest ways to control land and noise pollution.

KEY VOCABULARY WORDS: Pollution, Waste, Noise, Dumping, Hazard, Recycling.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS: Pictures of dirty dumpsites, noisy traffic, loudspeakers, and landfills.

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:
Teacher claps loudly near pupils and asks: “Did you enjoy that sound?” Then teacher asks: “What if it continued every day?” Pupils understand that too much sound is noise.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON:

What is Land Pollution?

Land pollution happens when the ground becomes dirty because of waste like:

  • Plastics
  • Bottles
  • Oil
  • Chemicals
  • Human waste (open defecation)

These things spoil the land and make it bad for farming and living.

Causes of Land Pollution:

  1. Improper Waste Disposal:

Throwing trash anywhere instead of using a dustbin.

  1. Oil Spillage:

When oil from factories or tankers leaks onto the ground.

  1. Industrial Waste:

Waste from factories that is dumped on land.

  1. Open Defecation:

When people use open land as a toilet — this is dangerous and unhealthy.

Effects of Land Pollution:

  1. The land becomes dirty and smelly.
  2. It causes the spread of diseases from flies, rats, and mosquitoes.
  3. It spoils the soil so plants can’t grow well.
  4. It can harm animals and people who come in contact with the waste.

Noise Pollution

What is Noise Pollution?

Noise pollution happens when there is too much loud and unpleasant sound that disturbs people and animals.

It makes it hard for people to sleep, think, or relax.

Causes of Noise Pollution:

  1. Loudspeakers:

Playing loud music in parties or events.

  1. Generators:

Noisy generators used when there is no electricity.

  1. Traffic:

Too many cars, buses, and motorcycles honking.

  1. Airplanes and Factories:

Big machines and engines make loud sounds.

Effects of Noise Pollution:

  1. Headaches
  2. Lack of concentration — hard to study or think.
  3. Hearing problems (deafness) from loud sounds.
  4. Irritation and stress
  5. Poor sleep
