Meaning of Drugs
A drug is any substance that is taken into the body to:
- Prevent diseases
- Cure or treat sickness
- Reduce pain
- Kill germs
Some drugs help people feel better or stay healthy when they are sick.
Types of Drugs
There are two main types of drugs:
Natural Drugs
These come from plants or animals.
They are not made by people in a lab.
Examples:
- Ginger – helps with cold and cough
- Aloe vera – used on the skin
- Quinine – used for malaria
- Honey – soothes sore throat
Synthetic Drugs
These are made by scientists in laboratories using chemicals.
Examples:
- Paracetamol – for fever and pain
- Chloroquine – used to treat malaria
- Antibiotics – fight bacteria and infections
Importance of Drugs
Drugs are very helpful when used correctly. They can:
