Conditions Needed for Crops to Grow Properly
For crops to grow well, they need:
- Good soil – rich in nutrients.
- Water – for germination and growth.
- Air – plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis.
- Sunlight – needed to make food.
- Fertilizer/Manure – adds nutrients to the soil.
- Space – enough room to spread roots and leaves.
Importance of Fertilizers
Fertilizers are substances added to the soil to improve fertility. They:
- Increase soil nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium).
- Make crops grow faster and healthier.
- Increase harvest (higher yield).
- Replace nutrients lost after farming.
Components of Fertilizer (NPK)
Most fertilizers are made up of:
- N – Nitrogen → helps leaves grow.
- P – Phosphorus → helps roots and fruits.
- K – Potassium → makes plants strong and resist disease.
