CONTENT OF LESSON
Meaning of Reproduction
Reproduction is the process by
which living things (like humans, animals, and plants) produce their young
ones.
This helps to make sure that life
continues from one generation to the next.
Male Reproductive Organs
These are the main parts in a male
that help with reproduction:
- Testes – produce sperm (the male cell that joins with
the egg)
- Scrotum – a pouch of skin that holds the testes
- Penis – passes the sperm into the female body
Female Reproductive Organs
These are the main parts in a
female that help with reproduction:
- Ovaries – produce eggs (also called ova)
- Uterus (womb) – where the baby grows
- Vagina – the passage through which the baby is born
Functions and Importance
- The male produces sperm
- The female produces eggs
- When sperm and egg join, it is called fertilization
- Fertilization leads to the formation of a baby
Why is reproduction important?
It helps in the continuation of human life — without it, people would not be
born!
