Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (II)

TOPIC: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
SUBTOPIC: Continuation of Week 1
CLASS: Primary 6
DATE: ____________________
PERIOD: ____________________
DURATION: 40 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

  1. Reinforce understanding of AI.
  2. Reiterate the importance of AI in everyday life.

KEY VOCABULARY WORDS:

Automation, Robot, Algorithm, Machine learning, Smart system

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS:

  • Charts of robots, AI-powered devices
  • Videos showing AI in action (optional)

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY:

The teacher asks: “Have you ever played a game where the computer plays against you? How does the computer know what to do?” Pupils respond. Teacher links this to AI.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON:

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) means machines or computers are made to think and act like humans. This means they can make decisions, solve problems, and even learn!

How AI Works

AI uses instructions called algorithms

  • An algorithm is a set of steps or rules the machine follows to solve a problem or make a decision.
  • It’s like a recipe: If the machine follows the right steps, it gets the right answer!

AI can learn – This is called Machine Learning

  • Some AI systems can improve themselves by learning from experience.
  • Just like you learn from your mistakes and do better next time, AI can do the same!

Where We Use AI

At Home

  • Smart TVs: Suggest shows or movies based on what you like.
  • Digital assistants: Like Alexa or Google Assistant – they listen and talk back!
  • Vacuum robots: Clean your floor without needing help.

At School

  • Online learning platforms use AI to help you learn faster.
  • They give you practice exercises, hints, and feedback based on your level.

Why AI is Important

  1. Accuracy
    • AI makes fewer mistakes than humans in many tasks.
  2. Speed
    • AI works faster than people, especially when doing many things at once.
  3. Convenience
    • AI makes life easier.
      Examples:
      • Automatic doors that open for you.
      • Voice commands like “play music” or “turn on the lights.”
  4. Problem Solving
    • AI helps doctors find illnesses, helps in safe driving, and keeps places secure with smart cameras.

Conclusion

AI is more than just robots – it is all around us, helping with learning, cleaning, traveling, and more. It helps us do things better, faster, and smarter.
