Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should be able to:

1. Explain the meaning of a road.
2. Describe different types of roads.
3. State the importance of roads.
4. Demonstrate the right and wrong behaviours on the road.
5. Identify traffic light signs.

Lesson 1 — Meaning and Types of Road

A road is a wide way that links one place to another. Roads link streets, communities, and states together. Some roads even link two or more countries.

Types of Roads in Nigeria

Lesson 2 — Importance of Roads

1. Roads link streets, communities, and states together.
2. They are less expensive compared with other means of transportation.
3. They are flexible and easy to manage.
4. They promote unity among people of different cultures.
5. They lead to growth and development.
6. They provide door-to-door services.
7. They bring goods and services to the people.

Lesson 3 — Road Safety and Traffic Lights

When crossing the road, always:

1. Use the pedestrian crossing or zebra crossing.
2. Look left, right, then left again before crossing.
3. Do not run across the road.
4. Obey traffic light signs.

Traffic Light Signs

• Red — Stop
• Amber/Yellow — Get ready
• Green — Go
