Subject: Mathematics (Numeracy) | Class: Primary 1 | Term: 3rd Term | Week: 8
Previous Lesson: Length — Week 6
Learning Objectives
- Explain the term weight.
- Compare the weight of objects.
- Identify which objects are heavier or lighter.
Lesson 1 — Counting 221–230
| 221 | 222 | 223 | 224 | 225 | 226 | 227 | 228 | 229 | 230 |
Lesson 2 — Meaning of Weight
Weight measures how heavy an object is. It shows the heaviness of an object.
The basic unit of measuring weight is the gram (g). Other units include centigram (cg) and kilogram (kg).
Lesson 3 — Comparing Weights
| Heavier Object | Lighter Object |
|---|---|
| A bag of cement (50 kg) | A bag of cotton wool |
| A bag of stones | A bag of paper |
| A fat woman | A thin woman |
| 50 kg of cement | 5 kg of semolina/salt |
Ordering of Measurement
- 1 gram is bigger than 50 cg
- 1 gram is bigger than 80 cg
- 1 gram is equal to 100 cg
Lesson Evaluation
- We can measure weight with feet. (True / False)
- We can use a scale to measure weight. (True / False)
- A bunch of broom is longer than my textbook. (True / False)
- 50 kg is heavier than 5 kg. (True / False)
- 10 kg is heavier than 10 cg. (True / False)
