Nigeria — Our Country

Nigeria is our country. It is located in West Africa. Nigeria is one of the largest countries in Africa and has the biggest population on the continent.

States and Federal Capital Territory

Nigeria has 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, which is the capital city of Nigeria.

National Language

The national language of Nigeria is English. Major indigenous languages include Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba.

Major Ethnic Groups

Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups. The three largest are:

  • Hausa-Fulani — mainly in the North
  • Igbo — mainly in the South-East
  • Yoruba — mainly in the South-West

Major Religions

  • Christianity — mainly practised in the South
  • Islam — mainly practised in the North
  • Traditional religions — practised across different communities
