Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should be able to:

  1. Say what technology is.
  2. State the benefits of technology.
  3. Describe how things are done before and now.

Entry Behaviour

The pupils can identify and differentiate between a grinding stone and a blender.

Lesson 1 — Meaning of Technology

Technology is the use of knowledge to create new devices or tools. Technology has made people’s lives and work easier.

Examples of technology:

  • Television
  • Radio
  • Fan
  • Gas cooker or kerosene stove
  • Fridge
  • Bulbs
  • Padlock

Lesson 2 — Benefits of Technology

  1. Television — used for viewing and listening to programmes.
  2. Radio — used for listening to news and other programmes.
  3. Fan — used for cooling.
  4. Motor — used for the movement of people and goods from one place to another.
  5. Telephone — used for making, sending, and receiving calls and SMS.
  6. Gas cooker — used for cooking.

Lesson 3 — How Things Are Done Before and Now

Discuss how things were done in the past compared to today. Consider:

  • How people moved from one place to another
  • How people communicated
  • How people cooked and farmed
  • How people made fire and preserved food
  • How people ground pepper

Lesson Evaluation

  1. Explain what technology is.
  2. Mention 5 products of technology.
  3. State 5 benefits of technology.
  4. Describe how people moved, communicated, cooked and farmed before technology.
